8 ECTS
Monitoring of Clinical Trials
Students learn international standards for clinical research (ICH-E6-GCP), regulatory environments, laws, rules, and regulations relevant to trial design, implementation, evaluation and reporting. The module covers fundamentals of trial design, medicinal product development, Good Clinical Practice, planning and conduct of clinical trials, project management, data management, audits and inspections.
8 ECTS
Pharmacology & Toxicology
Students learn to describe pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) of compounds in the body, interpret PK profiles of different dosage forms, derive potential metabolites, and interpret analytical data from biological samples. The module covers drug actions, LADME, adverse effects, biotransformation, bioavailability, and regulatory aspects of drug approval.
8 ECTS
Clinical Chemistry
Students learn to read and plan routine laboratory tests, understand clinical chemistry's role in medical settings, and learn analytical methods including immunoassays, protein electrophoresis, enzymes in diagnostics, and biomarkers for various diseases. The module covers preanalytics, postanalytics, quality control, and newborn screening concepts.
8 ECTS
Virology
Students understand virologic mechanisms of replication, virus-cell interaction, and major virologic techniques. The module covers human infecting viral families, viral transmission and epidemiology, viral disease mechanisms, prevention and treatment, and includes practical experiments such as Western blot, ELISA, plaque assays, and viral propagation in cell culture.
8 ECTS
Neurobiology
Students learn current concepts in neurobiology including membrane physiology, neuron structure and function, electrophysiological techniques, nervous system organization, and sensory systems. The module covers vision, biological clocks, mechanical and chemical senses, learning and memory, with practical experiments in recording action potentials and advanced electrophysiological techniques.
8 ECTS
Medical Proteomics
Students learn to design proteomics workflows, apply sample preparation and analyte separation techniques, and understand mass spectrometry principles and applications. The module covers protein purification, quantification, various separation techniques (gel electrophoresis, HPLC, capillary electrophoresis), and proteomics strategies including biomarker discovery and protein-protein interactions.
8 ECTS
Pathophysiology
Students learn to describe and explain pathophysiological processes with correct terminology and understand molecular mechanisms of diseases. The module covers cellular adaptations, homeostasis, inflammation, tissue repair, cancer, and diseases of the lung, kidney, heart, and cardiovascular system, with practical experiments in analyzing pathophysiological conditions.
