4. Semester5 ECTS
Materials Science
Students learn the relationships between structure, chemical composition and properties of steel, and understand material standardisation and testing methods. The module covers microstructure of metals, phase transformations, heat treatments, forming processes, and destructive and non-destructive material testing.
4. Semester5 ECTS
Elective Module (general)
Students can choose from courses within the engineering programme and Studium Generale to set their own priorities and increase individuality in their engineering education.
4. Semester5 ECTS
Measurement and Control Technology
The module teaches basic skills for automation of plants and industrial processes. Students learn to analyse technical systems, describe dynamic behaviour, and design control loops with analytical and experimental modelling methods.
4. Semester5 ECTS
Mass Transfer, Multiphase Flow
Students learn to evaluate mass transport processes in single- and multi-phase systems and design technical equipment such as cyclones, sedimentation tanks, and fluidised bed systems. Topics include diffusion, boundary layer phenomena, and multiphase fluid mechanics.
4. Semester5 ECTS
Thermal Separation Processes
Students learn to evaluate thermal unit operations and operate corresponding apparatus and equipment. The module covers distillation, rectification, liquid-liquid extraction, and technical implementation of evaporators, condensers, and column internals.
4. Semester5 ECTS
Sustainability Project
Student groups implement sustainability projects on campus and in Bremerhaven addressing topics like rainwater harvesting, waste separation, and organic waste recycling. The module teaches project management phases including planning, implementation, and evaluation.
5. Semester5 ECTS
Modelling and Simulation
Students learn to model and simulate process engineering equipment such as heat exchangers and cyclones using appropriate software. The module covers substance data determination, object-oriented programming basics, and practical use of simulation tools like Aspen Plus and Excel/VBA.
5. Semester5 ECTS
Elective Module
Students choose 4 of 6 elective modules from topics including Energy Conversion/Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energies 1, Biological Process Engineering, CO2 Separation and Storage, Water Technology, and Apparatus and Plant Engineering.
5. Semester5 ECTS
Process Engineering Group Project
Students work in small groups on complex engineering tasks with real-life business context, developing project management skills and learning cost estimation methods, benchmarking, and profitability calculations for process engineering.
5. Semester5 ECTS
Technical Development Aid
Student groups develop and implement innovative and sustainable technical solutions for challenges in developing countries, such as photovoltaics electrification, rainwater harvesting, and waste separation, while working in intercultural and interdisciplinary teams.
6. Semester5 ECTS
Machine Learning
The module covers machine learning techniques and their application in process engineering contexts. Students learn practical implementation methods for optimization and analysis of technical processes.
6. Semester5 ECTS
