Preparation for mathematical requirements in Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), Signal Processing and Engineering lectures with introduction to Computer Algebra Systems and basic concepts in probability theory, statistics, and extreme-value distributions for risk assessment of single components and complex systems.

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and building stock survey
Training in GIS software solutions for reproducing natural hazard and risk data, creating hazard and risk assessment layers, and conducting building stock survey including vulnerability assessment and damage interpretation using geodetic, photogrammetric, and satellite data technologies.

Course covering seismic monitoring, regional ground motion analysis, and wind engineering. Students learn to define seismic and wind actions, handle monitoring instruments and data acquisition, and interpret dynamic building response characteristics.

Students learn to analyze complex structural engineering problems using numerical simulation techniques, establish numerical approximation methods starting from PDE through discretized weak formulation, and understand structural dynamics concepts for SDOF and MDOF systems.

Introduction to history of structures, building materials and methods, structural design concepts including safety and codes, and design and detailing of reinforced concrete and post-tensioned concrete structures.

Course on determining structural system properties using modern measurement techniques including signal analysis, sensor-based monitoring, and geo-spatial monitoring for extracting information about structures and components.

Training in earthquake engineering tasks, natural hazard determining parameters, and application of modern building codes and design concepts for developing earthquake-resistant structures.

Deepening of soil mechanics basics including classification, water in soil, stress-strain relationships, settlement analysis, shear strength, earth pressure, and soil dynamics for static and dynamic analysis.

Geo- and hydrotechnical engineering - Flood Hazard and Vulnerability Assessment
Course covering flood management, flood defence design concepts, hydrology, hydraulic calculations, tsunami action characteristics, and structural damage and loss prediction.
