4. What are some recordings you watched and what did you gain from them?

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

Emmanuel Pahud - He played on a modern flute. I got a better understanding of style and tempo and how the piece sounds without vibrato on a modern flute.

Sebastian Marq - He played on a recorder. I got a better understanding of the continuous motion of the piece and about how light it should be.

From both recordings, I got some ideas for different trills and improv sections.

6. Describe how to produce a first tone on the flute.

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

First, I would have the student just play on the head joint to work on the forming embouchure (cover the end of the head joint for an easier sound) . To form the correct flute embouchure, say "poo". This gets your lips in the shape they need to be in. The air splits: some goes over the top and some goes into the instrument.

To get a sound out, start with the note D, E♭, or F. The flute is an awkward instrument to hold and these notes allow the weight of the flute to be in the hands rather than balanced.

7. Outline of a first flute lesson plan.

(APEBNM)

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

40-45 minute lesson plan for a small class or an individual:

Assembly- There are 3 parts. Attach the foot joint to the body and then the head joint to the body.

Position - LH wrapped around the upper part of the flute and RH placed on top of the lower part ... matching fingers to keys. Both hands should be in a "C" position.

Embouchure - Use a mirror so the student can see how to form their embouchure. Place the inner edge of the tone hole directly under the lips. Make sure the middle of the tone hole matches the aperture of the lips.

Breathing - Breathe from diaphragm. Most expansion in the front and a little bit in the back and sides. Throat should be open and an ideal breath should be silent.

Notation - Teach treble clef using acronyms EGBDF for the lines and FACE for the spaces. First notes on the staff / played should be D, E ♭, and F. Flute is a NON transposing instrument!

Maintenance - Swab the flute with a cotton or silk cloth after each playing time.
