❗️Discuss the notion of infrastructure as a relational concept and connect it with the notion of infrastructuring
Bowker/Star model of Infrastructuring
Todo
Infrastructure is about the relationship with network, device which change the practice of people who are using it. For example, the technology of mobile phone changes practice that nobody remembers phone numbers anymore.
(pg 48) Bowker/Star model: Infrastructuring consists of capturing & supporting creative activities that contribute to the emergence of infrastructure. The emergence of infrastructure eventually leads to change of practice.
Infrastructuring characteristics, activities that:
- embed I. in other social & technological structures
- support tasks in an invisible way
- change the life of infrastructure, add new element/application
- change formal&informal types of membership (organizational arrangements)
- aim at changing practice, imposing existing practice in technology
- I. plugged into other I., modified by scope and local conventions

❗️Compare and contrast information and communication technology infrastructures to other types of infrastructures
1. How they are structured
'Hard' infrastructure vs. 'soft' infrastructure. IS is in between because they carry aspects of organizational system & also technological. You cannot download/update a locomotive; only for digital infrastructure.
2. Relation Network-Device-Practice
More invasive, because it offers completely new ways of doing things (practice). E.g. nobody remembers phone numbers anymore.
3. Layers, standards, scale
What do workplace devices depend on?
It changes structure of the world. E.g. the electricity-dependent gas station couldn't be used in hurricane.
Interoperability of the devices
4. Immateriality
Programs as digital artefacts. Can travel on the same infrastructure (Internet) they operate with.
5. Reflexivity
Technology can change on its own without your control, self-manipulation, autonomous behaviour changes, e.g. updating a software; unlike with hard infrastructure
6. Immersiveness
ICTs enhance existing infrastructure
ICTs affect more practices, professional & private
7. Duality of medial and computational characteristics
Computers were first introduced as computational devices. But what we do now with them is to communicate.

- Communication platform for sports clubs (private social media platforms)
- Decreasing number of members in the platform
- You get the order to create added value to make platform more useful and appealing for the clubs (approx. 1 page in total for both a & b)
a. Describe which approach/framework you would choose for developing new opportunities for the club platform and give reasons for your decision.
b. Explain which measures and methods you will use in the phases and give reasons for your decisions
