• Fingernails kept short
• Hands washed and rinsed thoroughly
• Hands dried with a lint-free towel

Position yourself on the patient's right side and start the insertion with right lens.

1. Remove lens from the case

2. Rinse the lens with fresh saline / all in one solution

3. Dry top of the right  index finger

4. Place lens on top of index finger top, concave side up

5. Patient needs to look straight ahead

1. Hold the patient's upper lid with the middle and index fingers from the left hand 

2. Retract the lower lid with the right-hand middle finger 

3. Ask the patient either to look up or nasally 

4. Place the lens on the lower part of the sclera or on the temporal side and position the lens on the conjunctiva 

5. Have the patient close the eye and slowly massage lower lid

2. Hold the upper eyelashes with the middle and index finger of your left hand 

3. Place the right index finger on the lower part of the contact lens and slide the lens down on the lower conjunctiva 

4. Pinch the lens between the thumb and index finger and pull the contact lens out of the eye

The lens should be inserted sterile (using a wet cell applicator)

The sterile forceps at the slit lamp is used

Yes, they must follow the same mandatory hygiene as a practitioner instructed to.

They have to check each eye vision separately to be sure the lenses are in the eye and follow the same process as the practitioner is instructed to.

2. Slide the lens toward the temporal side

3. After removal of the lens, it has to go through the cleaning procedures according to the practitioner's recommendations

Since they can't insert/remove themselves, a family member will be trained to do so for them
