Occurs in germ and sertoli cells found within seminiferous tubules 250meters of the testes
Process: 
Mitotic proliferation forms spermatocytes 
undifferentiated germ cells (spermatogonia) contains 46 chromosomes
Cells proliferate and are converted to spermatozoa (sperm)
Meiosis causes spermatocytes to became spermatids
Each spermatozoa has haploid set of 23 chromosomes
Packing or spermiogenesis causes spermatids to become sperm
Takes 64-72 days

Phagocytose cytoplasm expels from the spermatids
Secretes seminiferous tubule fluid into the lumen
Sertoli cells secrete androgen binding protein which bind to testerone in the seminiferous tubules
Site of  action of testosterone and FSH to control spermatogenesis
Releases inhibin which functions acts in negative-feedback to  regulate FSH secretion

How do hormones regulate testicular function?

•Fetal testis secrete testosterone which direct masculine development of reproductive tract
•After birth testes becomes inactive until puberty
•At peripubertal period hypothalamus is under neural inhibition and is sensitive to negative feedback effect of testosterone
•Puberty starts at 10-15 years at which the neural inhibition is removed and hypothalamus become less sensitive to testosterone
•Maturation of brain testicular axis takes about 3 years after that sperm production and testosterone production remain fairly constant
•Testosterone is the main androgenic hormone & it stimulates lineal body growth,induces secondary sexual characteristics, hair growth, sexual organ maturation, thickening of vocal chord, altering libido, aggressiveness
