• Scientists: identify components of existing structure (analytic)
• Designers: shape components of new structure (constructive)

• Goal knowledge is most likely „normative“. Should rely on system knowledge, but cannot be fully derived from it; System knowledge is past-oriented, goal knowledge needs to be future-oriented.
• Transformation knowledge may not be easy to validate, to “proof”. Design allows for more then one way; It requires situated, local solutions, which can be hard to generalize; It is hard to isolate causal factors.

• Diener: Wellbeing is the frequent experience of enjoyable and meaningful moments and a general satisfaction with life.
• More immediate, situated, “hot” component – experiences
• More long-term, general, “cool” component – judgments of life satisfaction

Mechanism: Positive Affect (PA) engenders confidence, optimism, and self- efficacy; likability and positive construals of others; sociability, activity, and

energy; prosocial behavior; physical well-being; effective coping with challenge

and stress; and originality and flexibility - Linked to active involvement with goal

pursuits.

• Experiencing happens through the integration of central psychological processes– perceiving, acting, thinking, feeling

• Experiences make our lives meaningful; define our Selves
• We are the sum of our experiences
• We design mostly for the reflective self
