The University of Passau comprises a total of four faculties - namely: an economics, a law, a philosophy faculty and a faculty for mathematics and computer science. The law school is by far the largest.
There is an information page about living in Passau. Just have a look over there. Otherwise you can always use testimonials from former students to get tips.
The university library consists of the central library and four reading rooms. There is a library for each of the four faculties. In addition, there is also a central library that is located exactly in the middle of the campus. You can of course stay and study in any library, even if it does not belong to your faculty. Of course, there are reading rooms that are intended for concentrated work: you can use them at any time during the library's opening hours and reserve fixed spaces if necessary. As is customary for libraries, you should keep quiet in all of their rooms and conversations should be avoided at all costs.
For most of its courses, the University of Passau usually organizes an orientation week one week before the official start of the semester in order to make it easier for freshmen to start their studies and to provide them with important information about their studies. There are social events like a city rally, a university tour and a pub gate. Just talk to other people during these actions, they are in the same situation as you. Did you know that? The freshmen in Passau are known as Quietschies. The name comes from the fact that freshmen are said to be unable to find the right lecture halls at the beginning and that the doors are constantly creaking.
Sure - as usual at many universities, the University of Passau offers a wide range of university sports. From swimming to kayaking to soccer, everything is included. You can simply register online via the University of Passau homepage and pay 15 € for general use of the sports facility and, depending on the sport, a few euros more.
In Passau everything runs through Stud.IP. This is a platform for which you will receive your access data in advance. This is also where you sign up for the courses and can thus create your schedule. It is completely sufficient to wait for the orientation week first. Since most events do not have a limited number of participants, you can register and cancel at any time.
