Flashcard Flashcard

Exemplary flashcards for fMRI data analysis at the Universität Oldenburg on StudySmarter:

fMRI data analysis

What is a false discovery rate (FDR)?
The probability of having at least one false positive result, given the set of reported positive results.

fMRI data analysis

What is a pneumoencephalography?

A contrasting method in the measurement with x-rays in which parts of the liquor are exchanged by air which leads to a better differentiation on the image between the skull and the outer brain structures.

fMRI data analysis

What is an error matrix?
That component of the fMRI data that is unexplained by the design matrix, when fit by the parameter matrix.

fMRI data analysis

What is the meaning of homoscedastic?
Having the property that the distributions if noise are similar for all experimental conditions.

fMRI data analysis

What is the radiological convention?
The practice of displaying images of the brain so that left side of the image is the right side of the brain and vice versa, as if one were facing the subject.

fMRI data analysis

What is a glass-brain view?
A two-dimensional projection of fMRI data, as if the brain were made transparent and only the activations were visible.

fMRI data analysis

What is done in a subtraction and when can it be used?
It is a subtraction of the BOLD signal before the stimulus from the BOLD signal after the stimulus. This analysis can only be used if both states only differ in the independent variable.

fMRI data analysis

What is a t-test?
A test for statistical significance. It is based on the Student's t-distribution. It evaluates if the means of two sets of observations are different enough to not be drawn from the same distribution.

fMRI data analysis

What is a covariates?
Regressors that can take any of a continuous range of values.

fMRI data analysis

What are indicators?
Regressors that have integral values to indicate a qualitative level.

fMRI data analysis

What is a random field theory?
A branch of mathematics that deals with the properties of smooth, spatially extended data. Using ransom field theory, researchers can better calculate the number of independent tests within fMRI analyses.

fMRI data analysis

When has the first MRI prototype in clinical use been installed?

1983
