Von Stuck in the Middle wird gesprochen, wenn ein Unternehmen seine Wettbewerbsstrategie nicht klar definiert hat. Entweder sollte eine Qualitätsführerschaft oder eine Preisführerschaft angestrebt werden. Geschieht dies nicht, so bringt dies nach Ansicht des amerikanischen Wirtschaftswissenschaftlers Michael Porter den Verlust von Marktanteilen und eine sinkende Rentabilität als Konsequenz mit sich.
