secondary elements (context, interference, environment) effect but do not determine

simultaneously switching between dominant and submissive (source/receiver) part of the communication

what is the constructivist model of communication
construct = to build

negotiation -> agreement

negotiated meaning (=focus) impacted by channel, environment, interference, context (dominantly effecting meaning)

through mutual negotiation both partners of the conversation construct meaning

negotiation may also mean internal negotiation about the meaning of the message

every process of understanding is influenced by your culture

culture is everything and your personal reaction to it

intra personal (own thoughts and feelings... communication with yourself)

inter personal (involves 2 people communicating, informal VS. formal is based on level of intimacy) e. g. Dialoge, Interview, doctor-patient

group (3-8/10 people (small groups) if more, the group tends to break up into smaller groups (micro- or sub-groups), resulting in INTER PERSONAL COMMUNICATION e. g. group - work, teamwork, friends 

public (different dynamics: receiver in submissive position, role of source is primary, emphasis more on message than participants (?)) e. g. lecture, conference, tourguide

mass (larger group, not necessarily known)

3 or more people who affiliate (interact, cooperate)
they exchange information because they have something in common

the bigger the group the more likely it is for sub groups to emerge

more formal /less personal (dependent on norms);
better distinction of who is receiver/sender;
turntaking / not as simultaneous;
shared time;
takes more time and energy (effort);
competing agendas/ perspectives (>agreement is harder to be reached)

bad people (shrinking their duties, lie...) untermine the relationship in the group
