TESTE DEIN WISSEN
- temporary protection
- receive serum with preformed Ab’s

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN
Molecule that isn’t immunogenic by itself but can react with a specific Ab
- penicillin is a hapten
- not immunogenic as they can’t active Th cells as they can’t bind to MHC as they are not polypeptides

TESTE DEIN WISSEN
Active adaptive immunity
Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN
Protection based on exposure to the organism by overt disease sub clinical infection or a vaccine
Lösung ausblenden
TESTE DEIN WISSEN
Advantage of preformed Ab’s

TESTE DEIN WISSEN
Can be life saving in certain diseases caused by powerful exotoxins
Example = botulin + tetanus

TESTE DEIN WISSEN

TESTE DEIN WISSEN
- Ab’s and Ig’s = neutralise toxins, lyse bacteria with complement, opsonise bacteria, interfere with adhesion
- if level of Ig is < 400mg/dL = high risk of pyogenic infection (normal = 1000-1500)
- T cells = cytotoxic destruction of virus infected cells/ activation of macrophages

TESTE DEIN WISSEN
Active adaptive response
Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN
Primary response = 7-10 days
Secondary response = 3 days/ rapid response of large amounts of Ab to an Ag the immune system already recognises

TESTE DEIN WISSEN
Molecules that induce an immune response
Lösung ausblenden
TESTE DEIN WISSEN
Advantage and disadvantage of passive adaptive immunity
Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN
Advantage = immediate protection
Disadvantage = Ab conc decreases quick so lasts 1-2 months
