Process Models:
What are the benefits of a modeled Process?
used for continuous system engineering
Call the four named models in the control loop?
In our control loop, 4 models are named:
Architecture Model
As-is-Model
To-be-Model
Executable-Model
But how does such a model looks like, because we need to use and we have to develop/draw them?
You see, there are a lot of different modeling techniques and styles!
And we learn in this course the common used and standardized modeling technique: BPMN !
managerial/tertiary Process?
are the managerial processes that direct and coordinate the primary and secondary processes. During these, the objectives and preconditions within which the managers of the other processes must operate are formulated, and the resources required to carry out the other processes are allocated. The managerial processes also encompass the maintenance of contacts with financiers and other stakeholders.
Difference between Workflow Management, Process Management, Business Process Management?
These three words are often used equivalent, but there are differences:
Definition: Workflow Management |
Design of all tasks for specification, modeling, execution and control of workflows Monitoring, logging and integration of the implementation of the necessary work steps required applications |

Traits(vorzüge) from a good process model?
All models are incomplete. All models are a compromise. The model maker's art lies in making those shrewd trade-offs that will render the model most useful to the problem at hand.
A good model should be:
Salient
Since no model can represent everything, it must selectively represent those things that are most relevant to the task at hand.
Accurate
The model should precisely encode the actual state of affairs and not an erroneous or biased view.
Complete yet Parsimonious (Occam's razor)
The model should be as simple as possible, but not simpler.
Understandable
Once we perceive the model we must be able to make sense of it; it shouldn't be too complicated or unfamiliar for us to understand.
Key Point: |
Many people assume that there is always a correct model (and that somehow other models are wrong) however; there is seldom only one correct model. On the other hand, models might be invalid (in that they incorrectly use a given notation). In order to be useful, all models selectively represent some elements of the real world. The modeler excludes different dimensions of the domain (in order to achieve the modeling goals). |
Process Executive Role?
A process can be divided into various work packages / tasks. He is responsible for a work package / task and provides regularly status information to the process manager.

Secondary/ Support Process?
are those that support the primary ones. They therefore are also known as support processes. One important group of secondary processes concentrates upon maintaining the means of production: the purchase and maintenance of machinery, vehicles, and premises. A comparable group of processes is that involving personnel management: recruitment and selection, training, work appraisal, pay rolls, and dismissal. Financial administration is also a secondary process, as is marketing.
Case Manager Role?
When a process is triggered, e. g. by a client, then a case is born. For each case, there should be a case manager, who is responsible for this special case and helps to fulfil the output for the client.

is a means of representing the business activities, the information flow and decision logic in business processes.

BPMN Definition?
is a standard for business process modeling that provides a graphical notation for specifying business processes in a Business Process Diagram (BPD). It is based on a flowcharting technique very similar to activity diagrams from Unified Modeling Language (UML).
