TESTE DEIN WISSEN

Business Process Modelling Notation

Applications(anwendungen):

  • Organizational / IT-supported improvement of existing processes
  • Documentation of existing processes
  • Introduction of new processes

Why BPMN?

  • In practice, strong strengths against EPC (more complex notation elements)
  • Better connections to software engineering
  • Development and care by different stakeholders
  • Higher expressiveness

Call the four named models in the control loop?

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

In our control loop, 4 models are named:

 Architecture Model

As-is-Model

To-be-Model

Executable-Model

But how does such a model looks like, because we need to use and we have to develop/draw them?

You see, there are a lot of different modeling techniques and styles!

And we learn in this course the common used and standardized modeling technique: BPMN !

managerial/tertiary Process?

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

are the managerial processes that direct and coordinate the primary and secondary processes. During these, the objectives and preconditions within which the managers of the other processes must operate are formulated, and the resources required to carry out the other processes are allocated. The managerial processes also encompass the maintenance of contacts with financiers and other stakeholders.

Design of all tasks for specification, modeling, execution and control of workflows

Monitoring, logging and integration of the implementation of the necessary work steps required applications

 Definition: Process Management

Administrative activities aimed at defining a process, establishing responsibilities, evaluating process performance, and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Traits(vorzüge) from a good process model?

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

All models are incomplete. All models are a compromise. The model maker's art lies in making those shrewd trade-offs that will render the model most useful to the problem at hand.

A good model should be:

Salient

Since no model can represent everything, it must selectively represent those things that are most relevant to the task at hand.

Accurate

The model should precisely encode the actual state of affairs and not an erroneous or biased view.

Complete yet Parsimonious (Occam's razor)

The model should be as simple as possible, but not simpler.

Understandable

Once we perceive the model we must be able to make sense of it; it shouldn't be too complicated or unfamiliar for us to understand.

Key Point:

Many people assume that there is always a correct model (and that somehow other models are wrong) however; there is seldom only one correct model. On the other hand, models might be invalid (in that they incorrectly use a given notation).

In order to be useful, all models selectively represent some elements of the real world. The modeler excludes different dimensions of the domain (in order to achieve the modeling goals).

Secondary/ Support Process?

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

are those that support the primary ones. They therefore are also known as support processes. One important group of secondary processes concentrates upon maintaining the means of production: the purchase and maintenance of machinery, vehicles, and premises. A comparable group of processes is that involving personnel management: recruitment and selection, training, work appraisal, pay rolls, and dismissal. Financial administration is also a secondary process, as is marketing.

Case Manager Role?

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

When a process is triggered, e. g. by a client, then a case is born. For each case, there should be a case manager, who is responsible for this special case and helps to fulfil the output for the client.

Business Process Modelling? (BPM)

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

is a means of representing the business activities, the information flow and decision logic in business processes.

Tasks:

  • Externalize the business knowledge with a view to agree and bind all stakeholder in a representation that is shared within an organization and is reflected in its information systems.
  • It can present multiple granularity levels: from simple depiction of the workflow to simulation and execution.
  • It addresses complexity by emphasizing on specific aspects and by reusing models.
  • It achieves a common understanding of business knowledge between an organization and IT experts and thus drives the design and implementation of software systems.

TESTE DEIN WISSEN

is a standard for business process modeling that provides a graphical notation for specifying business processes in a Business Process Diagram (BPD). It is based on a flowcharting technique very similar to activity diagrams from Unified Modeling Language (UML).
