What is a limiting factor?

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

Something present in the environment that has the ability to restrict life processes upon shortage.

TESTE DEIN WISSEN

List some examples of limiting factors.

TESTE DEIN WISSEN

How does temperature affect the rate of photosynthesis?

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

The warmer it gets the higher the rate of photosynthesis. A substantial increase can lead to enzymes denaturing decreasing and stopping the reaction.

Lösung ausblenden
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

is photosynthesis an enzyme controlled reaction?

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

Yes

Lösung ausblenden
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

What happens when an enzyme denatures?

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

The active site is damaged so no reaction can occur.

Lösung ausblenden
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

What causes light intensity to decrease?

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

If the distance between the light source and the plant increases.

TESTE DEIN WISSEN

Do plants produce bubbles of oxygen when they photosynthesise?

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

Yes

Lösung ausblenden
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

How would you calculate the rate of photosynthesis?

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

By counting the bubbles produced during the process.

Lösung ausblenden
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

Investigating the effect of light intensity on photosynthesis in pondweed.

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

1.) Fill a boiling tube with 0.2% sodium hydrogen carbonate solution

2.) Freshly cut a 10cm piece of pondweed and place it in the boiling tube with the cut at the top

3.) Set up an LED lamp at a distance of 10cm to the boiling tube and leave to settle for 5 minutes

4.) Start the stopwatch and count the number of bubbles released in one minute

5.) Repeat twice and calculate the mean number of bubbles

6.) Repeat steps 1-6 altering distance of the lamp so it is 30cm, 40cm and 50cm away from the boiling tube

Lösung ausblenden
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

Is photosynthesis endothermic or exothermic?

Lösung anzeigen
TESTE DEIN WISSEN

Endothermic as it requires an input of energy from the environment.
